The International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) has named the 2012-2013 years as theĀ Global Year Against Visceral Pain. Your viscera, or essentially your internal organ system can be a source of pain, but also referred pain to your musculoskeletal system. There are times when people present with low back or mid back pain that may be referred from an internal organ or visceral source. In chronic pain situations, there are many times that correlations and interactions between the viscera and musculoskeletal systems occur that require Physical Therapists to assess and treat both systems as well as collaborate with other health practitioners. Here is a link to a quick Fact Sheets about the IASP on visceral pain.
If you have chronic musculoskeletal pain and ongoing internal organ issues, there may be a relationship between the two. Feel free to contact us if you would like to know more about this atĀ admin@motionstability.com
